A genkan greets you as you enter the house. Genkan are common in Japanese homes, as a space for people to leave their shoes, umbrellas, etc. Similar to the western mudroom, this is becoming an important addition to every home now.

In this house, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s strategically located to serve both the dining room and the lanai. The kitchen also features a bar that serves as another nook for entertainment. The use of adobe stone and jalousies reflect the owner’s affinity to Filipino and Mid-century styles. A pivoting sun-shading device is used in the front of the house to protect the rooms from the harsh afternoon sun.
